Found throughout moist woods in sun to light shade. The foliage is light green, 1-3 feet tall and wide, having a “fairylike, woodland quality with the lacy foliage and beautifully posed flowers'“ Sunset Western Garden book. Flowers orange with yellow center nodding on the end of a stout stalk. Best in filtered sun with some water.
Wildlife value: The seeds are relished by song sparrows, juncos and other small birds. Hummingbirds favor the nectar.
