Commonly found on the coast to 10 feet, can grow to 20 feet in protected valleys. An incredibly versatile shrub, taking sun or shade, wet or dry conditions. An excellent fast growing dense shrub. Choice for screening undesirable views quickly. The foliage has a wonderful scent if you rub your hand along it, and the berries can be made into candles. Deer resistant.

Wildlife value: The waxy coated fruit are eaten by a many kinds of birds including warblers and wren-tits. The dense foliage offers protective cover for a number of critters.
